We spend 4 days at one location in Brooklyn

We were called this week to an unusual jobsite. We were tol

d that this apartment complex has not had people living there for over 20 years. Off we went to explore this 16 apartment complex. Each apartment was loaded with stuff. It appears that many of the apartments were occupied by family members over the years, so they just used the apartments as storage units.

We found so many interesting items over the 4 days we spent hunting for interesting items. Each apartment was packed with random items. We are still unpacking some of the treasures we found. The owner of the building was a wood worker so we got tons of tools and many unusual items. We even found a 1944 Harley Davidson bike which the owner plans on donating to the Harley museum.

Friday morning was a major score as we purchased 4 mid century modern credenzas from a dealer that closed down in long island city.

We are always purchasing estates so we are always bringing in new items for our customers. If you are looking for a particular item, then you need to follow us on instagram as we update the items daily @reuseamericany.

More Mid Century Modern Gems?

We spend 5 days a week buying items for our vintage warehouse in Bushwick. We travel all over the place and we never know what we will find from one house to the next. A nice elderly woman in Staten Island called us to tell us she was moving and needed to sell most of her items as she was moving into an apartment from a large home. When we went in, we were disappointed as most of the furniture was not what we sell. As we were about to leave I asked if there was anything in the basement of the house. All I can say was WOW when we went down the stairs.

There was a stunning Mid century modern bright red electric fireplace from the 1960’s,  also a real nice mid century floor lamp, a stunning mid century modern Basset desk/dresser combo, a mid century cane rocking chair, some art and a bunch of smalls.

Then we traveled to a loft in Chelsea in Manhattan, where a lovely model was leaving New York to California and couldn’t take it all with her so we purchased a really nice heavy duty Mid century modern long dresser and 2 side tables made in Denmark. We also purchased a Danish modern stunning desk in great condition, 2 great wrought iron garment racks and also  10 really nice leather chairs made in Italy which are really different as they can be put together to make a bench or love seat.

We also got some awesome multi panel window panes from a home being renovated in Brooklyn. We actually spent the entire day removing the windows ourselves to make sure they didnt get ruined. We also purchased a heavy vintage french door with heavy leaded beveled glass.

We also got a call from a restaurant which was closing down. We purchased a bunch of cool convertible butcher block tables which go from square to round with ease. You have to see them in person to appreciate them, they have nice cast iron

too. Looking for affordable butcher block table tops, we just got in a bunch for your next table project. We have a bunch of different industrial bases to place your wood on top of so come check out our large industrial section with lots of options. we also purchased 3 large industrial cast iron antique vent grates which would make great coffee table tops.

We like being busy running around looking for great vintage furniture. If you know someone moving or selling their furniture, please give them our contact information. We purchase estates, partial estates and individual pieces of furniture, so please keep us in mind.

We stayed local this week and purchased an estate from a local interior decorator

We didnt have to travel far this week to get some really nice items. We purchased the contents from an estate of a Brooklyn interior decorator. While this home was totally loaded with great items, we couldnt possibly purchased the entire estate. This home was loaded with colored glass and silk flowers. We have enough of those items so we had

to dig deeper and get the items we know our customers would appreciate. We brought in some really nice small art deco furniture pieces, a nice mid century modern console, stunning mid century wood and leather chair and some nice wrought iron shelving as well. We purchased her collection of collectible mini liquor bottles (150 of them), and a bunch of her artwork as well as some unique fine porcelain items. She also had a massive collection (250) of avon perfume bottles and other avon items still in the box which we brought over to our 1158 Flatbush avenue store to be liquidated at $5 ea.

We also purchased over 30 really nice wrought iron outdoor chairs which will be great for your outdoor spaces. We also got some ultra modern coffee tables made in spain and some wild pieces of sculpture to decorate your home. Coming into the shop on Friday is a nice mid century modern dining table, mid century modern orange lounge chair and a nice distressed reclaimed wood console.

We also got 12 modern dining chairs which we didnt have the time to shoot photos of yet, but they are really nice including 2 bertoli type chairs.

From a collector, we purchased 4 antique bellow cameras from the early 1900’s, these can be restored or they make great shelf decor. So many interesting items keep coming in, You never know what you will find!

Each day, we go picking all over the city and upstate New York and we bring the items to our warehouses in Brooklyn. We purchased an estate in Boro Park on Monday and we worked 2 days bringing the items to our Bushwick location. A nice elderly couple is moving to Florida after living in the home for over 65 years. One can only imagine what a family gathers over the years and this house was packed with great finds.

Each room had treasures everywhere. Many items have been unseen for over 30 years, so it was like a new discovery for the homeowner as well. First we went into the basement, my personal favorite spot and we pulled out lots of small wood boxes from the tool room along with many other interesting small items. Every nook and cranny was filled with vintage treasures. From a box of old skeleton keys, to purple crystal door knobs, to old license plates, there were cool items everywhere.

We also found a first for us, a manual skeleton key making device in a nice wood cabinet… a real unique find. The homeowner told us that his grand father used to make skeleton keys as a side job in the 1800’s. Vintage garbage cans, handmade wood tool carrier, old work light, industrial lighting, old candle sconces, old paintings,  were also nice finds. The closets were filled with interesting finds as well. A nice set of pink Lucent plastic dish set, old canning equipment, milk glass and more were pulled out.

As we moved around the house we found a nice set of 3 teak and brass duck wall hangings. A bunch of vintage kodak cameras, old marbles, a portable bar kit in a box, old metal table top hair dryer, some cool enamelware, some interesting tins including one personal favorite (windsor glide powder for dance floors, a powder that you put on dance floors so you can do the 2 step with ease)

The best was yet to come, as we went up thru a winding staircase to a huge attic apartment. In it we found the groovy stuff. Mid century modern dressers, 4 mid century modern chairs by miller murphy, which my assistant thought was a partner of herman miller, which is not the case…but it was a cool find. We also got a well made george nelson slat bench in great condition and other nice small pieces.

Then we headed to the garage and found 3 great wood long benches, a antique cast iron coffee grinder, nice vintage wood ladder and a great bike shaped planter and much more.

There is still so much more stuff in that home, and the homeowner will be having us back in a few weeks to get more goodies.

Got a whole bunch of interesting things this week.

Our bushwick location is overflowing, but we still managed to bring in 3 cargo vans worth of great stuff including a bunch of unique items from a former photographer and typographer. We have lots of developing trays in metal, rubber and even glass. Lots of vintage aluminum film case. Old font organizers and type selectors, rub on lettering and lots of other related items that we have to still unpack for sunday.

We also got in some mid century modern record cabinets and antique furniture. The warehouse is really loaded with great finds.
